AV Fit for Champions: How an LED Video Cube Redefined GSHC’s Fan Experience

Overview

On a high from its recent thrilling double victory as national and European ice hockey champions, Genève-Servette Hockey Club (GSHC) wanted a wow-factor sports stadium LED display solution, to elevate every game day and to energize fans with the same intensity the players brought to the ice.

We were proud to work with Lemanvisio, a global powerhouse in audiovisual integration and GSHC’s official AV partner, to deliver a 96 sqm high-resolution, 4-panel LED screen cube, customized to deliver perfect immersive visuals in a challenging physical environment.

The Challenge: redesigning for reality with smart modifications

Designing a championship-worthy four-sided LED video wall for GSHC came with a unique set of challenges for the Lemanvisio and INFiLED team:

Temperature & humidity:

Ice hockey arenas are an ecosystem of temperature and humidity challenges.  Unlike LED perimeter boards and screens in outdoor sports stadiums, they’re not subject to external weather conditions like rain, wind or snow.

In an indoor ice  hockey stadium, humidity fluctuations and a steep temperature gradient between cold ice and warmer air higher up can create condensation risks. These mess with LED panel performance. LED screens do not like moisture buildup.

Dynamic force complexities:

Center-hung LED displays and cabinets must always be engineered to handle dynamic forces, but at GSHC there were added stressors at play.

Structural vibrations due to crowd movement complicated static and dynamic load calculations.

Complex customization:

The project called for a true four-sided cube with no visible gaps, but cubes have edges – it’s just geometry.

So how do you create an LED panel cube that has a 360° uninterrupted viewing experience from any angle?

We knew that a standard installation wouldn’t work.

Everything stops for gameday:

There’s no tolerance for downtime in a live sports setting. Lost ticket sales, disappointed fans, embarrassing press reports, unhappy sponsors – it’s not a pretty sight, nor a profitable one.

Every aspect of the LED cube’s design, modification and installation had to stick exactly to the schedule.

Our Approach: partnership first

For us, partnership is a part of our DNA and a vital ingredient to every successful project. That’s why we were especially delighted to work with the team at Lemanvisio, who demonstrated the AV integration expertise that they’re known for.

We worked with them and GSHC to fully understand and appreciate the club’s vision for the project, as well assess the problems unique to the physical and gameday environment.

We blended our deep experience and expertise in sports arena and stadium LED displays with our partners’ expertise to engineer the best solution. We worked closely with Lemanvisio at every stage to modify our technology, so that we could help them deliver on their promises to the club – and all the while with an eye on the clock.

The Solution: teamwork and technical expertise

We helped bring the club’s vision to life by delivering a modified ORMV P3.9 Pro, part of our MV Series, chosen for its durability and performance across the sports industry, such as the Etihad stadium and the UEFA European Championships.

The MV Series’s “standard” features have already made it a go-to installation across other sports stadia with high-impact requirements:

• Made from vibration-friendly ultra-light magnesium-aluminium alloy frames to reduce the load on the arena’s roof structure.
• Purpose-built for hanging and stacking, making it ideal for overhead mounting in the arena.
• Efficient LED technology minimizes power draw and the risk of electrical overload.
• Redundant power and data backup eliminates the risk of downtime during live action.
• Stable, high-speed signal transmission prevents latency or display glitches

• The high refresh rate and adjustable brightness ensures clear visibility even under the bright arena lights.
• Anti-glare coating minimizes reflections from the ice surface.

What made it unique for GSHC’s space were the tailored modifications we engineered:

– Circling the square:

For seamless edge-to-edge visibility, the LED panel cube required a precise 90° curved customization. Our team worked with a specialist metalworker to engineer a bespoke seamless corner.

With no visible gaps or distortions across the cube, spectators could enjoy immersive, uninterrupted visuals from any angle.

And, because safety always comes first, we modified the cabinets to be fixed to maintain the weight of the LED cube beyond safety standards.

– High humidity challenges:

LED displays are often manufactured with copper wire or silver-plated copper wire, and these work perfectly under normal conditions.

But under high humidity, there’s a big risk of oxidation, which causes LED panels to flicker.

To reduce this risk, we integrated gold-wire LED technology for superior resistance to corrosion, as well as for better conductivity, thermal stability and resilience against electromigration.
