How Door G Leverages INFiLED’s LED Technology to Tell Bigger Stories

Overview
When we’re young, many of us are captivated by stories. While some may lose that passion with age, others carry it forward, embracing technology to tell more powerful stories, more efficiently and economically.
That philosophy drives the motto Story First, Tech Forward at Door G, a virtual production studio based in Rhode Island, in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. The studio features a state-of-the-art LED volume from INFiLED, empowering creators to produce bigger, more ambitious stories without being held back by financial or logistical constraints.
Following a packed NAB show in Las Vegas, where Jenna Rezendes (Executive Producer) and Scott Maiocchi (Head of Production) spoke on the INFiLED & Friends stage about their virtual production journey, we caught up with the rest of the team—including Joe Ross (Technical Director) and David Mondillo (Studio Manager)—to learn more about the studio’s evolution and their experience working with INFiLED.
Story First, Tech Forward
At Door G, everything begins with story. Whether it’s a short film, commercial, or large-scale production, the foundation must be narrative. As David emphasized:
“Storytelling has always been the foundation of Door G. Technology is just how we get there more effectively. It’s the bridge between imagination and execution.”
Before building their virtual production studio, the team frequently worked with brands, agencies, and production companies—many of them are retail clients. Filming on location often came with limitations, from strict store policies to weather constraints.
Based in New England, where winters are long, gray, and snowy, the team sometimes had to travel as far as L.A. or Florida for ideal shooting conditions—adding both time and cost.
To meet growing content demands while overcoming those challenges, the team turned to virtual production using LED volumes.
The Challenge: Limited Space, Not Designed for Virtual Production
Door G’s goal was to create a flexible, multi-purpose virtual production studio—able to handle commercial work, branded content, photography, and corporate presentations.
However, the space wasn’t originally built for virtual production. As Scott put it, it was an ad hoc setup—retrofitted to accommodate this ambitious vision. The team had to creatively adapt the layout to suit their evolving needs.

Studio Design & Layout: from J to L
The initial plan was to install a full J-shaped LED wall with a continuous curve. But after consulting with INFiLED’s U.S. team, it became clear that the space was too tight for that configuration. Instead, they opted for an L-shape layout—better suited to the room, and more effective in preventing image distortion.
The L-shape also provided greater flexibility for camera movement and lighting. Depending on the creative intent, the team could use different sections of the wall to fill the space with ambient light or pure white backgrounds to boost overall brightness of the studio.
The INFiLED Solution: Ultra-Black DBmk2 Series
Door G’s studio is now equipped with a 56′ wide × 14′ tall curved LED wall built from INFiLED’s DBmk2 Series—a solution designed perfectly for virtual production. It has been praised by content creators for its outstanding performance.
Key Features:
- Ultra Black: Using exclusive black LEDs and ultra-black masking material, the DBmk2 delivers an exceptional contrast ratio of up to 10,000:1—offering rich, vivid visuals and true-to-life image quality.
- 1.9mm Pixel Pitch: A perfect fit for compact studios like Door G, the 1.9mm pitch strikes a balance between performance and budget. As Joe shared:
“The 1.9mm pixel pitch gives us the right balance between budget and performance. It offers great flexibility—especially for specific camera angles and at the same time, we wanted to be able to host in-person presentations. It was the sweet spot for us.”
- CBSF Technology: INFiLED’s proprietary Color & Brightness Shift Free (CBSF) technology addresses a common challenge in xR and VP applications: maintaining consistent color and brightness across wide viewing angles.
Joe emphasized its impact:
“Early on, I was looking for a way to reduce light spill and improve black levels and color reproduction. CBSF was a game changer. We could shoot close to the wall and still get accurate color even from extreme angles.”
Since installing the curved LED wall, Joe told us the on-set experience has completely changed:
“I used to get butterflies in my stomach every time I was supervising a shoot. Now it’s ‘set it and forget it.’ Everything just works.”

Why Work with INFiLED: Human First, Tech Forward
Once the studio vision was clear, the team set out to find the right partner—not just a vendor.
For Door G, the right partner had to do more than deliver cutting-edge tech. They needed a collaborator—someone who would listen, adapt, and genuinely support their creative goals.
That’s what they found in INFiLED.
Scott shared,
“INFiLED didn’t just hand us something off the shelf. They listened and worked with us to build what we actually needed. It wasn’t a vendor-client relationship—it felt like a partnership.”
And it didn’t stop at installation.
Joe added,
“INFiLED has stayed with us. They didn’t just drop off the screen and disappear. If I need something, I can call, and within an hour, I’ll have a response. That’s a real partnership.”
The Impact: Bigger Stories, Fewer Limits
With their new LED volume in place, the team at Door G can now execute creative ideas that were previously out of reach. From complex camera moves to realistic environments, their production capabilities have expanded significantly.
They now control variables like weather, lighting, and location—enabling faster turnarounds and higher output. For example, instead of producing one video per shoot, they can now produce multiple pieces in a single day. What once took four weeks can now be done in one.
As Jenna shared,
“It’s definitely removed some of the limitations we had in the past. Now, directors are able to think more creatively when planning their shot lists, which is exciting for them. They’re trying things they hadn’t considered before.”
Conclusion
To wrap up this case study, we return to the Story First, Tech Forward. We’ve learned a great deal from this mindset at Door G—it resonates deeply with INFiLED’s own motto: Screen Your Dreams.
We feel genuinely happy to collaborate with dreamers like Scott, Jenna, Joe, and David. It’s been a joy to support them, helping them bring their imagination to life with our LED technology, helping them focus on the best way to tell a story, to be more creative without having to spend huge amounts of money to get there.
In the words of Jenna:
“Technology doesn’t replace the story—it enables it.”
