Overview

Located in the heart of Saudi Arabia’s historic Diriyah District, the new headquarters of the Ministry of Culture needed a modern, high-impact visual communication system to enhance its brand presence, as well as support its day-to-day work.

Teams from Tera Systems and INFiLED worked together to design, engineer and install two different LED display screens to a high spec:

  • A large-format display in the main reception area, using the WK Series
  • A precision display in the boardroom, powered by the WP Series

About Tera Systems

If you’ve ever been involved in a mega AV project in Saudi Arabia, chances are you’ve worked with Tera Systems, one of the country’s leading AV providers. With 15 solid years of happy clients, the Tera Systems team has a strong reputation for its excellence of service, and a comprehensive tech offer of solutions and services that covers comms, AV and transmission networking, digital, development & apps and more – it’s probably easier to list what the team doesn’t offer!

The Vision: Impactful LED Screens For Visitors and Employees Alike

Launched on March 27, 2019, the Ministry of Culture’s vision and roadmap provide the framework guiding the development of the Kingdom’s cultural sector, aligned with the strategic pillars of Saudi Vision 2030: a vibrant society, a thriving economy, and an ambitious nation.

The new HQ for the Saudi government’s Ministry of Culture was never going to be some faceless bureaucratic building with zero swag. Set within the heart of the Diriyah District, the new building was designed to align both with Saudi heritage and the forward-looking gigaproject of Riyadh’s new cultural quarter.

In contrast to the historically-sympathetic exterior, the Ministry of Culture was looking for an indoor communication system with two very different aims:

  • A striking LED screen for the lobby area, designed for powerful first impressions and enhanced brand presence. This would showcase achievements, information and cultural messaging as visitors passed through reception.
  • A boardroom screen that a) looked good and b) supported an up-to-the-nanosecond high-performance meeting environment, for those national and international meetings and presentations.

The overarching goal was to create a visually compelling, technologically advanced comms environment that aligned with the Ministry’s prestige and ambitions.

The Challenge: Ultimate Reliability, That Also Looks Good

In any government department, the stakes for communications are super high. Problems and mistakes don’t just dent a reputation. They invite scrutiny and possible criticism from anyone who wants to take a pop. This was only one of the key challenges for the project – perfect reliability.

Other core challenges were getting the spec exactly right for the purposes, and overcoming the technical constraints for each of the indoor environments. The Tera Systems and INFiLED teams had to address:

  • Viewing distance: The screens needed to be optimized for the correct viewing distances. LED screens with too large pixel pitch would reduce image clarity.
  • Serviceability: There’s no time for downtime in a busy national government department. Both screens would be used heavily, so needed to be fast, easy and non-fiddly to maintain.
  • Heat management: Large-format indoor LED screens love to pile on the heat buildup, and this is great only if you’re looking for unreliability, color instability and spiralling operating costs. Traditional cooling systems love to be noisy. Hot and noisy were not on the wish list.
  • Power consumption: Sustainability and cost-effectiveness were especially important for the client.
  • Brightness vs comfort: The displays had to balance luminance without the uncomfortable glare the too-bright LEDs can cause in indoor environments.

The Solution: A High-Performance LED Screen for High-Level Work

For the main boardroom, the Tera Systems and INFiLED team worked closely together to design, engineer and install an LED screen built from panels from INFiLED’s WP Series. The screen measured 2.4m wide by 1.35m high, giving it focal presence without overpowering the room. A pixel resolution of 1,920 across x 1,080 down ensured the visuals would be sharp and clear, with no loss of detail for any seat in the room. A brightness of 800 nits gave the screen the chops to remain clear and visible whatever the indoor lighting conditions, as well as show off the content beautifully.

All of INFiLED’s products are known for their reliability, but the ultra-thin, ultra-light WP Series is especially designed for 24/7 use in tricky indoor environments:

  • The cost-effective SMD technology gave the boardroom screen the perfect balance of robustness, long-term stability and field serviceability. The modules are front-access for quick servicing, and pop right off cleanly with low risk of damage due to INFiLED’s magnetic pop-off tool.
  • Lower heat dissipation and zero noise ensured the LED screen wouldn’t distract or annoy boardroom meeting participants.

For the HQ reception, the team designed a 6m wide x 5.74 high LED screen engineered from panels from INFiLED’s workhorse WK Series.

The Result: A Boardroom That Reflects the Ministry’s Authority and Ambition

The Ministry of Culture now has two LED screens that contribute to the visual impact of its new HQ, enhancing its brand presence, but also giving it attractive and resilient resources to get its message across and its work done.

We’re delighted by the success of this project, but this wasn’t down to product alone. One of the special highlights for us was being involved in an example of perfect stakeholder collaboration. We worked closely with the Tera Systems integration team, supporting them and their client end-to-end: from design and engineering, to installation support and final commissioning.

“We have built strong trust in INFiLED through several successful projects. The collaboration has always been smooth and professional, and their team consistently delivers reliable, high-quality solutions.” Ahmed Soliman, Sales Manager, Tera Systems
